GoMA Queensland Gallery of Modern Art https://catharticcamera.com/goma-queensland-gallery-of-modern-art/ https://catharticcamera.com/goma-queensland-gallery-of-modern-art/#respond Mon, 16 May 2011 15:27:58 +0000 https://catharticcamera.com/?p=1893 One of the cool things about living in West End is that it’s only a short walk down to the Queensland Cultural Centre.

The Queensland Cultural Centre is a multi-venue centre located at South Bank, Brisbane, capital city of Queensland. It consists of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), the Queensland Museum, the State Library of Queensland (SLQ), the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) and the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA).

I think GoMA is probably my favourite, most people I know say the acronym goma as a word as in “go mah”, I visit it fairly often to see if there’s anything new, this weekend I had a lazy weekend so I went down to visit but most of it is under construction. In the future I might write posts about the other parts of the Cultural Centre, as you can imagine its a great place for getting ideas about composition, lighting and what its like to have artwork exhibited etc

Here’s a few photos Ive taken of GoMA. One during the floods. Click them to see full size.

I hope you get time to visit, you can see whats happening on the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art website.

Australia Zoo is the Best https://catharticcamera.com/australia-zoo-is-the-best/ https://catharticcamera.com/australia-zoo-is-the-best/#respond Wed, 28 Jul 2010 10:40:11 +0000 https://catharticcamera.com/?p=2129 Recently I visited the world famous Australia Zoo with Jack, Sarah and Ruth. I’m a big fan of Steve Irwin and have always wanted to visit the zoo.

It’s an amazing place, its huge and there’s so much to see. We arrived around 1pm and didn’t manage to see everything, I would happily go back. I highly recommend visiting the zoo.

A team of passionate conservationists work round-the-clock to deliver an animal experience like no other. Cuddle a koala, hand-feed our Asian Elephants, walk with a Sumatran Tiger and watch a crocodile launch from the waters edge. Australia Zoo is the ultimate wildlife adventure delivering conservation through exciting education. — Australia Zoo Website

I thoroughly enjoyed the day, we wandered around looking at all the animals, saw a show at the crocosuem, fed the kangaroos and at the end of the day briefly visited the animal hospital.

Make sure you check out the Australia Zoo website for more information, its pretty cool that they use wordpress for the Australia Zoo blogs. Theres also quite a lot of good info on the Wikipedia entry for the zoo so check that out too, look at the impressive list of animals.

Have you been to the zoo?

Mount Tibrogargan day trip https://catharticcamera.com/mount-tibrogargan-day-trip/ https://catharticcamera.com/mount-tibrogargan-day-trip/#respond Tue, 27 Jul 2010 10:51:36 +0000 https://catharticcamera.com/?p=2178 Sage invited Jack and I on a day trip to Mount Tibrogargan. So off we went on another adventure.

Mount Tibrogargan is one of the many mountains in the Glass House Mountains National Park, north-northwest of Brisbane, Australia. It is a volcanic plug of hard alkali rhyolite that squeezed up into the vents of an ancient volcano 27 million years ago. –Wikipedia

Both Jack and Sage have experience in climbing and Abseiling so they managed well, I had a few moments where I seriously doubted I could go further and ended up stopping on a section just before the hardest climbing area while the guys went all the way to the top.

On the way down Jack was like a mountain goat. The air was so fresh and so clean and the view was spectacular.

On the way home we stopped at Caloundra to check out the beach, It was a really nice way to spend the day, the weather was perfect. Thanks Sage.

Do you like bush walking and the beach?
