I heard about the “Konnekting Bowl Rollers” Skate and Scooter Competition Series 2011 through Gil Goon of ALL DEF WEAR. I met Gil when I photographed the Call to Arms Rap Battle event. I didn’t really know if they had a media guru/photographer so I decided to check it out. It was held at Kuraby skate park which is right next to the Kuraby train station so it wasn’t a problem getting there from South Brisbane. Many years ago I used to skate and convinced myself I could take some really nice photos and there was some hip hop acts supporting the event so I knew it would be pretty cool.
Brought to you by, Brisbane City Council, Mt Gravatt PCYC, KBR CREW, The Spot Youth Centre, Dirty Gremlin, Unfair Scooters, 41’s Finest, Dirt Dolls, Afrade, All Def Wear, Plain Fitted Caps, Bay Boy Custom Clothing and Extreme Skates.. LOTS OF PRIZES UP FOR GRABS!!!
The 8th MAY comp WENT OFF!! simplex from terrafirma and motions made a guest appearance and rocked the mic THANKS GUYS AND I HOPE YOU GUYS CAN MAKE IT BACK NEXT MONTH!
It was an awesome event, cool music all day and awesome skaters, scooters etc. DJ Immaculate was there for the day as well as simplex n motions and the shire folk doing a few tracks. I also noticed Kawstick and Greeley turned up and I managed to get a paparazzi photo of them. I’m still finding my way through all these Aussie Hip Hop bands.
Regan from KBR crew told me that it would help to take photos to show the Council how awesome the event is to get more support for future events. Anyway enough rambling lets check out the photos (click to enlarge). I also recorded a short video.
The full collection of photo’s is on the Kay Be R’ (Kickbackrelax) facebook account here and here.
